Bird Species
Eurasian Collared-Doves
Date Photographed
January 2008
Where Photographed
Orem, Utah, in the backyard of a relatively busy urban area. I regularly get Eurasian collared-doves, but despite having a safe backyard for them to visit they always seem skittish and jumpy. This was a rare chance to get the pair together.
Tips and Tricks
- The Eurasian collared-doves are sometimes my only visitors on cold winter days, but if the feeders are full they will be there.
- Provide a platform feeder for larger birds like doves, as well as ground feeding birds like juncos.
- These doves will happily eat up spilled seed, including millet, sunflower seeds and milo if it is part of your birdseed mix.
Melissa Mayntz, Birding / Wild Birds Guide, says:
These are one of my favorite backyard birds, and they're always a pleasure to see.
