How do you attract northern cardinals to your backyard?
We have two feeders and two suet blocks outside our back window. The feeder contains "Nature's Window Wild Bird Feed" purchased at the local mill; the suet blocks are seconds we get near here and they vary in content, but most do have sunflower seeds. Also the hawthorne berries on the tree he is sitting in attract many birds and squirrels.
Tips and Tricks
- When photographing birds I think the most important thing is to be patient!

Hawthorne trees are one of the best fruit trees for birds, and they will help attract a lot of species such as American robins, cedar waxwings and northern mockingbirds. Northern cardinals prefer seeds, and suet blocks and seed feeders with either black oil sunflower seeds or safflower seeds can be a tasty treat for these brilliant red birds.
