Bird Missing From Topeka Zoo

Visitors to the Topeka Zoo will see one less resident among the zoo's bird population. According to the Topeka Capital-Journal, a gray-necked wood-rail that hatched almost a year ago has recently gone missing from a rainforest exhibit. The bird was hand-raised and is comfortable around people, yet despite thorough searches of the exhibit and the rest of the zoo grounds, he is nowhere to be found.

The gray-necked wood-rail (Aramides cajanea), like most rails, is generally elusive but can be quite vocal and is more often heard than seen in the wild. The species is native to South America but is not endangered.

Anyone with information about the missing bird's whereabouts is asked to contact the zoo at (785) 506-3797 or info@topekazoo.org.
