Where Photographed

Rockport, Kentucky: This photo was taken in my backyard under my feeder. I live in a spot that is sort of a passageway between an area of trees and brush and the Green River, in a rural town. The river is about 150 yards away and has many types of birds around it. Also, this town has a wildlife management area within 5 miles so there are plenty of birds and other wildlife in the area. I can go outside and see some type of bird any direction I look about any time during daylight hours.

Tips and Tricks

  • I usually walk to the river about three times a week. I carry my camera with me, usually I can get at least one good picture every time, I also go to the Wildlife Management Area about once a week and get maybe one or two. I try to walk quietly and try not to make sudden movements that would scare the wildlife. I also take lots of pictures when I can so that maybe one will be good.

Melissa Mayntz, Birding / Wild Birds Guide, says:

It's always wonderful to live near an area that is perfect for birds, and that usually leads to even easier backyard birding since the birds are already used to good habitat nearby. It's always entertaining to take advantage of the birding all around you!
