Hummingbirds of North America

By , About.com Guide

Of the more than 300 hummingbird species in the world, fewer than two dozen venture as far north as the United States and Canada, and only a handful remain there year-round. Yet these are beloved birds, welcomed in thousands of backyards with hummingbird feeders, nectar-rich flowers and eager backyard birders. While there is great diversity among hummingbirds, the species regularly found in northern habitats share many similar features and birders who can distinguish between these flying jewels can take steps to see all the hummingbirds of North America.
