Many hummingbirds are known for their bright, unusual colors, but the brown inca (Coeligena wilsoni) proves that even plain brown plumage can be attractive. These stocky hummingbirds are found in Columbia and Ecuador, and their field markings include a white patch on the shoulder and an iridescent purple throat that is visible in the best light.
