Accipiter

(noun) A type of slim hawk with short, rounded wings and a long tail that give it exceptional flight agility. Accipiters are small to medium-sized hawks that are most frequently found in forested areas where their agility is an advantage over the small birds and mammals they prey on. Accipiters fly with several wing flaps followed by short glides.

Accipiter species include sharp-shinned hawks, Cooper’s hawks and northern goshawks.
