Fantastic April Bird Festivals to Enjoy


Birding fun heats up as spring migration advances, and many birding festivals in April are scheduled specifically to highlight the best of seasonal birding. This is one of the most popular months for bird festivals and there are dozens of events to enjoy, from single day celebrations to week-long extravaganzas.

The April birding festivals listed below offer walks, tours, seminars, workshops, speakers and other activities, but individual events vary annually – check each festival’s updated website for specific information, registration and fees. Note: Only a few features are mentioned below; many more are on each festival’s complete schedule!

Alaska Hummingbird Festival

Hummingbirds are the guests of honor all month long at the Alaska Hummingbird Festival. Events scheduled throughout the month to celebrate these flying jewels include an art show, bird-themed crafts, movie presentations, informational workshops and a coloring contest.

Birding Optics & Gear Expo

While not a festival to see birds directly, the Birding Optics & Gear Expo is a great event to help every birder see birds better. Try the latest optics before buying, and get expert advice on choosing binoculars and spotting scopes. Lucky guests may even win great door prizes.

Olympic BirdFest

In addition to birding walks and tours that extend through different habitats, the Olympic BirdFest includes a raffle, auction, birding cruises, owl prowls, drawing and photography workshops, a gala banquet and a tour of local totem poles.

Grand Isle Migratory Bird Celebration

Since 1998, the Grand Isle Migratory Bird Celebration has been a wonderful spring tradition to celebrate the resident and seasonal guests of the Grand Isle Sanctuary. Along with bird walks, festival events include bird banding, arts and crafts, kayak birding tours and a local historic home tour.

Great Louisiana BirdFest

An annual event at the Northlake Nature Center, the Great Louisiana BirdFest gives visitors the opportunity to explore a wide range of habitats with a chance to see more than 125 bird species. Other activities include photography workshops, a social and delicious southern food.

Galveston FeatherFest & Nature PhotoFest

Godwit Days
