March Madness: Worldwide Raptors

By March 7, 2013

Follow me on:

The barn owl flew ahead by just three votes to move on to the next round, but which of today's worldwide raptors will join it? Your votes will decide!

The osprey is the only bird in the family Pandionidae, and this fish-hunting raptor is found around the world wherever fish supplies are abundant. With long, broad wings and distinctive markings, this is a favorite raptor of many birders privileged to watch its efficient fishing.

The peregrine falcon is a success story of raptors recovering from DDT poisoning, and today these agile raptors are even found in cities, breeding on skyscrapers that mimic their natural cliff nesting grounds. These are awesome birds to watch in a dive, with a top speed over 200 miles per hour.

Which of these raptors will advance to the second round? Vote in the poll below to help choose, but don't delay - voting is only open for two days!

Voting for this matchup has ended. See which raptor won, and vote in the next challenge!
