Can you draw a box? Can you recognize a bird? Then you can help Merlin learn to do the same! Merlin is an intuitive tool under development through the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and input from birders around the world is requested to help gather the quantity of data necessary for Merlin to advance.
Previous actions have involved discerning colors or marking the parts of a bird, but this time, the goal is to put each bird in a box using a crop tool to tightly surround the bird in a photograph. The box can be resized and moved easily, and it takes just a few seconds to complete one photo. More than 227,000 crops have already been submitted, but much more data is necessary to fully educate Merlin. Let's get cropping!

Wow, Merlin has got quite an impressive amount of bird counts. I’m sure the programme has now become a huge bird fan.
