Many birders would consider finding an owl in the attic a treasure indeed, but it is an owl painting that has been the real prize for one art teacher recently. According to the Huffington Post, Jane Cordery discovered the detailed barn owl painting in her attic and recognized its quality. An email to Christie's auction house determined the original artist - William James Webbe - and placed an initial value on the work at over £70,000 ($110,000). At auction, however, the piece fetched a much higher price, finally selling for £589,250 ($951,050).

The birds on your life list may not have a high dollar value, but for birders they can be priceless. What's your "treasure" bird? Share your sightings in the comments!
