We take a quick break from our 12 Days of Christmas series to answer an excellent birding question from Melanie in New York...
"My children are home for their holiday vacation now, and I'd like to encourage them to be outside! They're not really into birds, but I thought there might be a way to get them interested. Any ideas?"
School vacations are a great time to introduce kids to birding, and what better way this time of year than with a winter bird scavenger hunt? This makes being outdoors and learning about birds a fun game. Another option would be to visit a zoo to learn about bird conservation and exotic species. If you're lucky, you might even be able to visit a zoo to see puffins, penguins and other really unusual birds that will get kids excited about nature.
