For this year's annual turkey pardon ceremony, President Obama will officially pardon an avian resident of Virginia. According to WHSV.com, the two toms lucky enough to receive the presidential pardon (one is an alternate in case the first cannot fulfill his duties) have been raised in Rockingham County outside Harrisonburg. After their official reprieve, they will be retired to Mount Vernon to live out their days without fear of gravy, dressing or cranberry sauce.
Did you know the domestic turkeys that receive presidential pardons are the same species as wild turkeys, Meleagris gallopavo? Learn more about turkeys with this wild turkey photo gallery, even if you won't pardon the one on your table!
