Waterfowl Feeding Ban Approved

Park visitors in Cheyenne may no longer be able to feed local ducks and geese. According to the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle, urban flocks of ducks and geese have been growing in recent years and are causing problems in city parks, golf courses and picnic areas. Increased feces are causing health concerns for city officials, and the ban on feeding the birds is the first step toward controlling the population and encouraging the birds to migrate to other food sources.

The proposed ordinance must pass through two additional council approvals before becoming law. If passed, violators could face penalties up to six months in jail and fines of $750 for feeding ducks or geese on city property, though officials expect written warnings and less severe penalties would be in order for first offenses.

Does your city have a feeding ban for urban waterfowl? Do you believe such bans are effective? Share your thoughts in the comments!
