Birders who love history will enjoy the first "History is For the Birds" contest sponsored by the Northampton Township Historical Society in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. According to the Northampton Patch, the contest encourages bird house builders to create a usable structure inspired by an historical building. The inspirational structure does not need to still be standing, but a photo must be available to prove its existence.
Entry forms are due by November 9, and the houses will be judged November 11 based on several criteria, including historical likeness, material use and difficulty. There is no fee to enter the contest, and monetary prizes will be awarded in three age categories.
