Ospreys and bald eagles are often at odds competing for fish, but according to the News-Messenger, the osprey is winning out in many Ohio habitats. In fact, a state project to reintroduce the osprey to appropriate nesting habitats reached its goal of 20 nesting pairs seven years earlier than anticipated, in 2003, and today there are more than 100 nesting pairs in the state, though that number is only half the number of bald eagle nests. Even still, the project is considered a resounding success and osprey sightings continue to rise.
