This week's featured bird is a popular target species for birders visiting the southwest desert - the verdin loves that arid habitat and is frequently found foraging in scrub areas for insects or fruit. While its gray plumage may be unimpressive at first, its yellow head and chestnut shoulder patch are colorful and distinct field marks.
