This week's featured bird is far more colorful than its more familiar eastern cousin - the western bluebird has a richer blue coloration and more extensive blue in its plumage, and its chestnut breast and flanks can also be brighter. It does have a much smaller range and is generally less social than other bluebirds, however, making it often harder to find.
