Foraging bird flocks can often be a problem in public areas, and now they're a problem at a public school. According to the Newport Beach Patch, an unruly flock of gulls is becoming quite the gang on the campus of Corona del Mar High School, harassing students with food and leaving their droppings in such quantities that outdoor drains are clogging. The birds typically congregate near the gym where trash is collected, but the flock is growing and their influence is spreading. The Newport-Mesa Unified School District and Corona del Mar's PTA are working together to brainstorm ideas to disperse the flock. Current suggestions include sonic deterrents, spikes on popular perches and hiring a falconer.
Have you been harassed by greedy gulls? What tactics have been successful to deter them? Share your ideas in the comments!
