It's time for another round of Mailbag Monday, when I answer a reader's question for all birders to enjoy. This week, Trish from Nevada asks...I just started feeding the birds, and my husband doesn't get why I enjoy it. All he sees is what birdseed costs and how much work it can be to keep feeders filled and clean. What can I say to convince him it's worthwhile?
Everyone enjoys different hobbies, and there's nothing wrong with not understanding what another person likes to do. If your husband doesn't share your passion for birds, you can explain the different benefits of feeding birds, and he may begin to learn why it can be a fun hobby himself. In the meantime, you might try saving money on birdseed or using kitchen scraps to feed the birds so the cost isn't so great for your backyard buffet. You might even get your husband involved by landscaping with seed-bearing flowers and fruit trees for birds that will feed birds and save money in the long run.
Do you have a birding question to ask? Submit it to Mailbag Monday to be featured in an upcoming week!
