Bird of the Week: Painted Bunting

Wednesday March 11, 2009
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, this week’s featured bird is a bright, beautiful visitor with brilliant green plumage on its back: the painted bunting. In fact, the painted bunting has some of the most stunning plumage of all backyard birds, but it comes with a price – this bird has a terrible temper. While seeing a painted bunting may be a birder’s figurative gold at the end of a feathered rainbow, these birds are also shy and can be challenging to spot.

Is the painted bunting on your life list? Share your stories in the comments!
