Hawk vs. SUV
Friday March 6, 2009
On March 4, a female red-tailed hawk collided with the SUV on Interstate 5 near Canby. The car was traveling at 70 miles per hour, and the plastic grille broke around the bird and snapped back into place after the impact, trapping her between the grille and the radiator. After being found, the bird was taken to the Audubon Society of Portland's Wildlife Care Center. She has no broken bones and while staff members are concerned about possible internal injuries, she is eating and alert. After further observation and ensuring she can fly, the hawk will be released.
