An Election for the Birds
Wednesday November 5, 2008
Yesterday’s election was literally for the birds in Salt Lake County, Utah. By a greater than two-to-one ratio, voters approved Proposition 1, a bond that will spend up to $19 million to renovate and expand Tracy Aviary, one of only two public aviaries in the United States. Tracy Aviary is the largest and oldest public aviary in the country, and a great destination for birders visiting the Salt Lake City area. The new funds will make possible expanded facilities and additional education programs involving the aviary’s more than 400 residents representing more than 130 species of birds.
